There is more to web design than meets the eye, although a website is built around its appearance there is more to it, like ease to use and accessibility. Accessibility is key feature because there is no way you are going to reach the potential of your company if people are being turned away for silly reasons like speed or visibility. People need to be able to read your writing clearly so it is important to use a very user friendly font, I like to use Verdana because it is different and interesting while being readable.

Another important feature of a successful website is its speed, there have been many experiments into how long people will wait before they click the back button, usually for broadband users. Any time quicker than five seconds is very well made and efficient but a time over ten seconds is slow and maybe be loosing you users. Web pages are usually slow because of too many pictures, too many scripts or unnecessary downloads. In all of the websites I've made I have tried to slim all the photos down for dail-up modem users though it is hard to reach a compromise between speed and quality.

My most recent websites, such as this one, have past the W3C HTML Validation Service showing that all the coding is correct. This may increase changes of higher ranking in search engines and even speed.
